Pistahan Annual Parade & Festival 2017 – San Francisco

Welcome to 24th Annual Pistahan Festival. Experience the best of Filipino art, dance, music, and food at the Pistahan Parade and Festival. Billed as the largest celebration of Filipino Americans in the U.S., the two-day event organized by the Filipino American Arts Admission is free and fun for the entire family!

Tour Itinerary

Day 1: San Jose, Costa Rica – Tour Begins 
 

Journey to Costa Rica and discover the fascinating tropical ecosystems of Tortuguero National Park, Sarapiquí Rainforest, and Manuel Antonio National Park. Embark on many exclusive explorations of the country’s natural gems. Take time for independent personal discovery.

Day 2: San Jose – Tortuguero National Park
 

Begin the day surrounded by dormant volcanos and crater lakes as you journey through Braulio Carrillo National Park en route to the Caribbean lowlands. Along the way, take in the mountain vistas and Caribbean-style villages. Later, discover the natural wonders of the rainforest of Tortuguero National Park as you cruise the rivers and canals with your guide. Enjoy a two-night stay at your eco-lodge surrounded by the beauty of a tropical forest and an array of wildlife. Learn more about your surroundings with a visit to the world’s first Green Turtle Research Station. Discover how to protect the turtle’s nesting habitat and eggs. Join your fellow travelers this evening for a welcome reception followed by dinner.

Day 3: Tortuguero National Park
 

Set out on an early morning bird-watching excursion* that explores the variety of local species and migratory birds that flock to this area. Find yourself surrounded by wildlife as you embark on a cruise through the park – keep an eye out for howler monkeys, sloths, toucans, and caimans, as well as exotic flora. Tortuguero National Park, a study in rainforest, freshwater and marine biology, protects over 350 species of birds and mammals. Savor time to explore and seek out green macaws; 57 species of amphibians; 111 species of reptiles; and 60 mammal species, including 13 of Costa Rica’s endangered animals including jaguars, tapirs, ocelots, cougars, river otters, and manatees.

Day 4: Tortuguero National Park – Sarapiquí – Tenorio Volcano
 

Embark on a leisurely boat ride to the mainland as you travel to the fascinating Sarapiquí region. Make a stop at a cacao plantation and discover the history and continuing importance of cacao to Central America’s economy. Observe the process of producing chocolate from the cacao bean and sample the delicious finished product. Continue to your hotel at the foot of the Tenorio Volcano.

Day 5: Tenorio Volcano – River Rafting – Tenorio Volcano
 

This morning; take an exhilarating river-rafting adventure on the Tenorio and Corobici rivers where you’ll experience breathtaking views. Later, meet some Tico artisans as you discover the world of the craft-brewing culture in Costa Rica on the shores of Lake Arenal.

Day 6: Tenorio Volcano – Maleku Indigenous Village – Tenorio Volcano
 

This morning, set out on a cultural adventure in a Maleku indigenous village. Interact with one of the last indigenous tribes of this region and learn about how they live. Sit down for lunch with them before heading back to your resort. This afternoon, enjoy some free time or perhaps take an optional hike out to the spectacular light blue waters of the Rio Celeste waterfalls.

Day 7: Tenorio Volcano – Manuel Antonio National Park
 

Travel the beautiful chequered landscape of Costa Rica to the Pacific Coast, arriving at the world-famous Manuel Antonio National Park. After soaking up the sweeping views and a stop at a seaside village, experience the spice of life at the Villa Vanilla organic spice farm. Learn about biodynamic vanilla production and other spices. Then, indulge in some of the freshest sweets you can imagine. Later, take in the sunset from your hotel overlooking Manuel Antonio National Park and the Pacific Ocean.

Day 8: Manuel Antonio National Park
 

Travel just minutes down the road to explore spectacular Manuel Antonio National Park, known for its pristine beaches and primary forest. Spend the morning leisurely walking the forest trails in search of native inhabitants like the three-toed sloth, agoutis, squirrel monkeys and iguanas. Take a swim in the inviting blue waters of its beaches. Relax for the remainder of the day by the pool and absorb the natural beauty of your surroundings. If you’re looking for an adventure, perhaps you’ll choose an optional zip-line tour in the afternoon or an optional nighttime nature reserve walk.

Day 9: Manuel Antonio National Park – Villa Blanca Cloud Forest – San Ramon
 

Say goodbye to the coast and travel north to the Villa Blanca Cloud Forest, originally owned by the former president of Costa Rica, Rodrigo Carazo Odio. Make a stop at the El Toledo Organic Coffee Plantation en route to discovering the natural growing methods used to make some of the best coffee in the world. Continue to the city of San Ramon – referred to as “The City of Presidents & Poets” – for a tour. Then, settle into your hotel overlooking the cloud forest and enjoy the amazing view from your individual casitas.

Day 10: Villa Blanca Cloud Forest
 

Wake up to a cool breeze and spectacular views. Prepare to try your hand at organic farming. Local guides will take you on an immersive nature reserve tour: explore sustainable agriculture, farming techniques, and greenhouse cultivation. Get a taste of what they grow during a lunch created with ingredients grown on the farm. The afternoon is yours to relax and take in a natural beauty that surrounds you. Tonight, partake in a tree adoption ceremony followed by an incredible farewell dinner where we’ll toast the natural richness that is Costa Rica.

Prior to Day 1
Depending on your flight schedule, you may need to arrive in Beijing the day before the beginning of the itinerary. Pre-night stays in Beijing are available for additional cost.

Day 1: Beijing
Arrive in Beijing, China and transfer to your hotel where the rest of the day is at leisure. In the evening enjoy a welcome dinner to meet your fellow tour members and tour escorts.

Day 2: Beijing
In the morning we will visit the Temple of Heaven, where the emperors performed rituals to ensure good harvests. We will then make our way to visit the famous Tiananmen Square where lunch will be served in a nearby restaurant. After lunch we continue on to the Forbidden City – the complex that was the imperial palace of China’s emperors for 500 years. This evening enjoy Peking Duck Dinner at Huajiayiyuan courtyard restaurant.

Day 3: Beijing
Today is one of the highlights of your China tour, a full day excursion to see the Great Wall at Mutianyu, a less crowded section, where the wall snakes down a mountainside (the visit includes the cable car going up with optional choices for coming down such as by slideway or cable car). Later we will drive past the Olympic Stadium on our return to the city.

Day 4: Beijing – Xi’an 

This morning, we visit the gardens and pavilions of the Summer Palace on the outskirts of Beijing and after lunch we will transfer to airport for the afternoon flight to Xi’an. Upon arrival, transfer to hotel, passing by the famous bell tower and drum tower.

Day 5: Xi’an
Enjoy an excursion to the famous Terracotta Army, created by China’s first emperor in the 3rd century BC to guard his tomb for eternity. Afterwards you will visit the old city wall of Xian. In the evening, the group will enjoy a “Tang Dynasty” song and dance show evoking the sights and sounds of the Tang Dynasty when Xi’an was capital of China.

Day 6: Xi’an – Chongquing
Enjoy the morning visit to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda before we transfer you to the airport for your flight to Chongqing. Upon arrival we will take you on a brief city tour that includes visiting the native pandas at the zoo. Sichuan Cuisine will be served as dinner before transferring to the pier to join your luxury 5-star boat, the MS Victoria from American cruises for departure later that evening along the famous Chinese Yangtze River.

Day 7 and Day 8: Cruising Yangtze River 

The next few days are on board your luxury boat on the Yangtze River cruise as you sail downstream through the Three Gorges, including shore excursions to Fengdu, the “Ghost City”, and a trip in small boats through the smaller gorges of either the Daning River or Shennong Stream, tributaries of the Yangtze. The rest of the day is at leisure to relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery.

Day 9: Yichang – Shanghai
Wake up on your last morning of your Yangtze River cruise and enjoy a shore excursion to the Three Gorges Dam. The boat will arrive in the city of Yichang around lunchtime where we will disembark and transfer to the airport for flight to Shanghai. Upon arrival you will be transferred to THE Club® affiliated hotel, The Dorsett Shanghai Hotel where the rest of the day/evening is at leisure.

Day 10: Shanghai
Enjoy your amazing full day city tour around Shanghai that includes the Yu Garden and Shanghai old bazaar- a classic Chinese house and garden in the old town district; Cruise on the Huangpu River that flows through Shanghai, giving you the best view of the city’s modern skyline; visit the Oriental TV tower (second ball) a famous symbol of Shanghai. The rest of the day/evening is at your leisure.

Day 11: Shanghai
After breakfast, we travel out to the small ‘water town’ of Zhujiajiao, now situated on the outskirts of Shanghai, for a contrast with the big cities. Old buildings line alleys and a maze of canals, crisscrossed by elegant bridges. Then return to Shanghai to explore Xintiandi, in the former French Concession, where old tenements have been transformed into a lively area of upmarket bars and boutiques.

This evening enjoy a farewell to Shanghai dinner with your fellow members.

Day 12: Shanghai/Hong Kong
After breakfast, experience of the fastest train-Maglev to Shanghai airport to take your flight to Hong Kong. Arrive in Hong Kong and transfer to your hotel. In the evening, enjoy a cocktail cruise to view the spectacular Symphony of Lights show which is listed as the most elaborate light and sound show in the Guinness book of world records, followed by a buffet dinner on board.

Day 13: Hong Kong 

Buffet breakfast at hotel. Morning Hong Kong island visiting Golden Bauhinia Square, Victoria Peak, Repulse Bay and Aberdeen Fishing Village. Afternoon Kowloon Cultural and Life tour visiting Nan Lian Garden, Chi Lin Nunnery, Bird Market, Flowers Street and Nathan Road.

Enjoy our farewell dinner in the evening.

23rd Annual Pistahan Parade & Festival in SF

On August 13 & 14 of 2016, there will be the 23rd Annual Pistahan Parade and Festival taking place at the Yerba Buena Gardens area of downtown San Francisco. It is the nation’s largest celebration of the Filipino-American community! It is a FREE admission weekend event, and attendees will be able to enjoy a lively parade on Saturday that goes along Market Street in downtown SF, as well as fun festival events on both days.

As the owner of Genevieve Wine, she is a proud memberof the Filipino-American. This year, Genevieve will be introducing her new wine vintage, including Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petite Sirah along with several other fine wine and beverages at the Pistahan Tavern Pavilion during the festival.
